This is specific to GB. After their 2019 General Election defeat, the Labour party (who last won a GE in 2005) held a leadership contest. All 3 of the final candidates signed a pledge to expel any member who mis- pronouned someone or didn't agree to use pronoun-ing. This backfired when thousands of labour members started using the hashtag 'ExpelMeToo'!
